Training
Your Acquisition Support Center (USAASC) continuously strives to design
and sponsor a variety of career development programs and training
opportunities to further develop your functional and leadership
competencies. To that end, the Northeast and Central USAASC manages
a Regional Training Program which includes partnerships with government
schools, vendors and the civilian personnel community to offer quality
training courses and programs locally so that Acquisition, Logistics
and Technology (AL&T) Workforce members can avoid the inconvenience
and expense of TDY to remote locations. These training opportunities
are normally (with few exceptions) totally funded by the USAASC with
no funding required by local organizations.
The regional training efforts of your Northeast and Central USAASC
work concurrently with existing continuous learning policy. Policy
on continuous learning for the Acquisition, Logistics and Technology
(AL&T) Workforce requires that AL&T Workforce members
who are certified in the position they encumber, earn 80 continuous
learning points (CLPs) every two years. The purpose of the policy
is to aid workforce members in maintaining continued competence
and career development and to assure that they continue to participate
in a variety of continuous learning activities throughout their
careers. In today's rapidly changing environment, it is critical
that acquisition professionals remain current with reforms and
trends and are flexible and willing to learn new skills.
The CLP policy described above was effective December 15, 1998.
This was the start date for all workforce members who were certified
in their positions on that date. The start date of the 2-year
period for individuals certified later is the date certified
in their position. The automated IDP System is the vehicle used
to annotate, track, and award CLPs.
Your first and most important step is to meet your position requirements.
Most employees have 18 months to accomplish this after being assigned
to an AL&T Workforce position unless they encumber a position
that was formally considered non-AL&T Workforce and was subsequently
re-classified as AL&T Workforce. In the latter case, an employee
would normally have 36 months to be certified. Once certification
requirements are met, you should begin broadening activities.
These may include certifications at higher levels or in other
career fields, leadership training, developmental assignments,
seeking a degree, participating in career professional activities,
etc., all of which may be counted toward earning the 80 CLPs.
Attainment of CLPs is not limited to the traditional classroom
setting but may be earned in numerous ways; e.g., attendance at
conferences, rotational/developmental assignments, and participation
in professional activities. Work with your supervisor to ensure
attainment of CLPs is considered when developing your IDP and
ensure points earned are captured on your IDP, and approved by
your supervisor.
