Ockenhouse[/author] The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and public-private partners recently received recognition from Time magazine for the development of the RTS,S malaria vaccine candidate, when Time called the vaccine the second most momentous medical breakthrough of 2011. Malaria is a major worldwide problem that is endemic to regions of strategic importance to the United States, such as tropical Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America.
