Noncommissioned Officer MOS 51C: Prerequisites

This MOS is open to Soldiers from any Enlisted Career Management Field (balanced or over strength MOSs).

Reclassification guidance and prerequisites for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 51C – Acquisition, Logistics & Technology Contracting Noncommissioned Officer.

1. Prerequisites to apply for MOS 51C:
a. For (Active Component) SGT through SFC with less than 10 years of Active Federal Service in any Career Management Field at the time of submission for reclassification. This is waiverable up to 13 years in time of service as of the MOS 51C Reclassification Board date they are applying to. SGTs do not have to be promotable, but they must meet qualifications for promotion to the next higher rank including NCOES training and minimum time in service and time in grade requirements. (MOS 51C IS CURRENTLY OVERSTRENGHED IN E7/SFC AND NOT ACCEPTING RECLASSIFICATION PACKETS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.)

b. Recommendation letter signed by commander O-5 or higher.

c. Be successfully rated in a Leadership position (provide last four NCOERs).

d. Provide a copy of college transcript(s) or a diploma from an accredited institution if you have gone to college..

e. Provide a copy of training certification related to contract training if applicable.

f. Soldiers must show proof that they have a security clearance or that one was initiated. Security Manager must provide a letter that verifies Secret or Interim Secret Clearance and a copy of the SM information obtained via the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS).

g. Have no derogatory information in OMPF.

h. Exhibit stability in personal affairs IAW AR 600-20 (i.e. should be able to receive a Government credit card, and single parents need to have a Family Care Plan).

i. Meet height and weight standards IAW AR 600-9.

2. Soldiers must possess the following qualifications to maintain MOS 51C – AL&T Contracting NCO:
a. Be eligible for reclassification per AR 614-200.

b. Successfully complete 51C Reclassification Training (the Mission Ready Airman Course [eight weeks resident] or the Army Acquisition Basic Course + Army Intermediate Contracting Laboratory [seven weeks resident]).

c. A physical demand rating of moderately heavy.

d. A physical profile of rating: 222222.

e. A physical profile of rating 22222. If you have a profile then you must submit a copy of it with your application request.

f. Minimum score of 110 in aptitude of GT (not waiverable).

g. Normal color vision.

h. Be a U.S. citizen.

i. A security eligibility of favorable National Agency Check; Entrance National Agency Check, per AR 370-67, para. 3-613; or letter that verifies Secret or Interim Secret Clearance.

j. Have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

k. Meet Service Remaining Requirement (SRR) as outlined in AR 614-200, Chapter 4 (SRR for MOS 51C is 60 months). Soldiers must serve an additional 60 months upon completion of reclassification training. Soldiers must reenlist to meet 60 month requirement IAW AR 614-200, Chapter 4, through extension or reenlistment, prior to attending contracting reclassification training.

l. Meet height and weight standards as outlined in AR 40-501.

m. Soldiers must maintain their deployable status as outlined in AR 40-501 and AR 600-60.

n. Waiver authority for eligibility criteria or MOS qualification issues will be forwarded to the Director Acquisition Career Management, U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center, ATTN: 51C Proponent Office, 9900 Belvoir Road, Building 201, Suite 101, Mail Stop 5567, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5567.

o. Formal training and successful completion of MOS 51C qualification courses is mandatory before a Soldier is awarded MOS 51C.
