Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Training The FY14 schedule was released on May 16, 2013 and is available for student registration. Planning and applying early affords students a better opportunity in obtaining a class in the requested timeframe. Students may continue to apply for the remaining FY13 courses available on the schedule. Encourage your supervisor to approve your training request as soon as you apply. Applications cannot be processed until the supervisor approves the training request in Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS) and Internet Training Application System (AITAS). Students should view the DAU I-catalog to ensure prerequisite(s) are met before applying to a DAU course. Low-fill classes within 60 […]

Civilian Education System (CES) Per Army Regulation 350-1, many civilians are required to complete the appropriate Civilian Education System course(s) depending on their grade level and supervisory responsibility. This becomes especially important as individuals desire to apply to more senior level programs sponsored by the Army’s Director for Acquisition Career Management (DACM) Office, the Army, and/or the Department of Defense. Army DACM Office-sponsored programs such as the Defense Civilian Emerging Leaders Program (DCELP) and the Defense Acquisition University – Senior Service College Fellowship Program are coordinated through the Army G-3/5/7 Office, and the Army DACM Office is now required to enforce completion of the applicable CES courses (basic, intermediate, or […]

Even in the face of significant fiscal constraints, our acquisition workforce still has statutory requirements to meet. Therefore, we will still be offering many of our Acquisition Education, Training and Experience (AETE) opportunities. In addition, the Hon. Frank Kendall, under secretary of defense, published a memorandum (“Continuation of Centrally Funded Defense Acquisition Workforce Development Fund Initiatives”) on March 13, 2013. In that memorandum, he states we “must continue acquisition workforce initiatives centrally funded by…the DAWDF [Defense Acquisition Workforce Development Fund]. These initiatives include…DAWDF initiatives to bolster and sustain the quality of the acquisition workforce. Quality initiatives include training, development, recruitment, and retention initiatives.” Below are three of our programs that […]

Defense Acquisition University – Senior Service College Fellowship (DAU-SSCF) Congratulations to DAU, as well as the Army Director, Acquisition Career Management (DACM) staff, for recently having our fellowship awarded Senior Service College equivalency by the Army G-3. Our fellowship is the first civilian fellowship to be granted equivalency. DAU-SSCF is now an official Military Education Level 1 (MEL-1) training program. Our goal for the past three years while working toward this was to be able to have DAU-SSCF recognized on the same level as the U.S. Army War College and the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy (formally ICAF). School of Choice We will not be […]

Education and Training Opportunities The Army Director of Acquisition Career Management (DACM) office, along with the rest of the Department of Defense, has recently received significant funding cuts. However, our top priority remains ensuring that our civilian and military workforce has multiple opportunities to meet their statutory certification and development requirements. We will continue to fund those already enrolled in any of our tuition assistance, leadership development, or experiential programs. In addition, we are working daily to ensure future opportunities remain viable. That being said, we have had to suspend some programs such as the School of Choice – we had originally planned to have an announcement open mid-FY13, but […]

Army Acquisition Civilian Leadership Development Plan The Army Director of Acquisition Career Management (DACM) recently published our first leadership development plan for civilians. Unfortunately, there is not one clear path for civilians…that would be too easy! Unlike the military, civilians can/will take hundreds of different routes in their quest for upward mobility. This plan is meant to serve as a guide for all levels of our acquisition workforce. Using this model, each workforce member may see what the training requirements are at each level. In addition, they may also use this plan to identify desired training opportunities available at upper levels and each opportunity is hyperlinked to an information page […]
