51A System Development
This three week course is designed to provide a broad spectrum of knowledge pertaining to the materiel acquisition process. It covers legal and regulatory policies and objectives that shape the acquisition process and the implementation of these policies and objectives by the U.S. Army. Areas of coverage include: program management, systems engineering and information technology. Further, this course emphasizes Army-unique system acquisition procedures, organizations, and Army doctrine throughout its curriculum.
1. Note to Training Officers: Students must be manually entered into ATRRS.
2. In order to complete the FA 51 basic qualification training requirements, officers must complete AAFC (8D-F48/551-51C30), the Army Basic Contracting Course (8D-F50/551-51C30) and the Army Intermediate Program Managers Course (8D-F46/551-F34). All three course must be taken consecutively and in the following order – AAFC/ABCC/AIPM.
3. In order to complete MOS 51C basic qualification training requirements, NCO’s must complete the Army Acquisition Foundation Course (8D-F48/551-51C30), the Army Basic Contracting Course (8D-F50/551-51C30) and the Army Intermediate Program Managers Course (8D-F46/551-F34). All three course must be taken consecutively and in the following order – AAFC/ABCC/AIPM.

Course material is NOT releasable to students from foreign countries.
ACTIVE, RESERVE AND GUARD OFFICERS: Commissioned officers must have completed their branch advanced course, must be a Captain (O3) or above, and must have been assessed into the U.S. Army Acquisition Corps with a Functional Area code of 51A. Officers must have a baccalaureate degree or higher with 24 business hours.
Security Clearance Requirement: Secret.

Commissioned officers and civilians who fail to meet these prerequisites but who are assigned to a materiel acquisition position will be considered for enrollment on a case-by-case basis.
