This three week graduate-level course is designed to provide a broad spectrum of knowledge pertaining to the materiel acquisition process. It covers legal and regulatory policies and objectives that shape the acquisition process and the implementation of these policies and objectives by the U.S. Army. Areas of coverage include: program management, systems engineering and information technology. Further, this course emphasizes Army-unique system acquisition procedures, organizations, and Army doctrine throughout its curriculum.
Note to Training Officers: Students must be manually entered into ATRRS.
The FA51 Basic Qualification Course is made up of the
1. Army Acquisition Basic Course (AABC)– 5 weeks
2. Army Intermediate Program Management Course (AIPM) – 3 weeks
3. Army Acquisition Intermediate Contracting (AAICC) – 4 weeks
4. Army Intermediate Contracting Laboratory (AICL) – 2 weeks (51C Only)
Note: Officers being assessed into the Acquisition Corps should attend these three courses, four for 51C officers, one after another (contiguously). TDY orders should include all courses, beginning with the starting date of AABC and ending with the final date of AAIC or AICL.
Students must be members of the acquisition workforce assigned to a coded material acquisition position. Officers must be accessed in the U.S. Army Acquisition branch with a Functional Area code of 51.
