4: ASC WELCOMES NEW CG In a change of command ceremony June 24 at Rock Island Arsenal, Il- linois, Maj. Gen. Daniel G. Mitchell, left, accepted the flag of command for U.S. Army Sustainment Command (ASC) from Lt. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr., commanding general (CG) of First Army. James was acting as a proxy for Gen. Gustave F. Perna, then-19th CG of U.S. Army Materiel Command, who presided over the ceremony via live video link. ASC is a major subordinate command of Army Materiel Command.


Mitchell, former CG of U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Com- mand, replaces Maj. Gen. Steven A. Shapiro, who retired after a 35-year military career.
