CLOSING SOON: THE DOD COLLEGE ACQUISITION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
There’s still time! The application window for the DOD College Acquisition Internship Program (DCAIP) closes on Oct. 11 for the summer 2024 program. DCAIP is a paid 12-week summer internship that provides students with real-world exposure to DOD acquisition workforce career opportunities. Full-time college sophomores and juniors in all majors can apply. The Army is looking to bring a STEM/digital focus into the acquisition workforce, so students in those fields are particularly encouraged to apply.
Employment as a DCAIP intern offers many benefits, including: the opportunity to gain professional acquisition-related experience in research, analysis, report writing, oral briefings and policy development; training and mentoring; a paid salary; and the opportunity to become a permanent DOD acquisition workforce member after college graduation and completion of the DCAIP internship.
The internships are at various locations throughout the United States. Some of the internships are hosted by Army organizations and others are hosted by Navy, Space Force, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and other services and defense organizations. All DCAIP internships are acquisition related.

COMING SOON: LEAD PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT
Interested in building skills for positions of greater responsibility? Interested in transitioning from a technical functional area into program management? If so, prepare early and consider applying for the Leadership Excellence and Acquisition Development (LEAD) program. LEAD is the premier 24-month leadership development program for GS-12/13 (or broadband equivalent) acquisition professionals, offering expanded training through a series of education, leader development and broadening assignments to build those skills required for positions of greater responsibility. LEAD evolved from an in-depth evaluation of the 23-year running Competitive Development Group/Army Acquisition Fellowship. The LEAD application window is open starting Nov. 6 and closes on Dec. 29.
“The LEAD program has allowed me to explore the opportunities in Army acquisition that are outside of my career path. For someone looking for a change, it is a great program to consider,” said Cody Swinford, a 2021 graduate of the LEAD program. Read the Army AL&T article about his experience here. View the list of other graduates on the LEAD Yearbook page. Any questions can be directed to the LEAD program manager, Ms. Kelly Terry at kelly.l.terry2.civ@army.mil.

On Sept. 13, the Army Director of Acquisition Career Management (DACM), Ronald R. “Rob” Richardson Jr., signed a memorandum titled “Critical Acquisition Position and Key Leadership Position Policy.” This policy provides guidance on the designation, qualification, tenure agreements and waivers for critical acquisition positions (CAPs) and key leadership positions (KLPs), in compliance with Department of Defense issuances and Department of the Army policies. It applies to Army acquisition workforce (AAW) and non-AAW professionals who are selected to occupy a CAP or KLP. REMINDERS
SENIOR RATER POTENTIAL EVALUATION
As an AAW member, rater, or senior rater of an AAW professional, you must ensure a senior rater potential evaluation (SRPE) is completed. The fiscal year 2023 SRPE completion window is now open. Senior raters must complete the SRPE for fiscal year 2023 by Dec. 31. To prepare, first take a moment and ensure your email address is current in the Career Acquisition Personnel and Position Management Information System (CAPPMIS) at https://apps.asc.army.mil/camp. You can update your email address using the Acquisition Career Record Brief (ACRB) edit feature in CAPPMIS. AAW members should ensure their individual development plan (IDP) identifies the correct rating scheme; this enables the Army DACM Office to notify all parties of critical updates and actions required.
Some important reminders about the SRPE:
- If you are aware of, or anticipate a change in status (i.e., promotion), or a change in supervisors (i.e., new first-line supervisor/rater or new senior rater) before September 30, 2023, a close-out SRPE is required.
- Before the end of this fiscal year, you should request a close-out SRPE from your supervisor, or if you are a supervisor, you should initiate a close-out SRPE for your employee.
- Raters may initiate a close-out SRPE by using the supervisor’s link in the SRPE module to “Request SRPE.”
- The SRPE policy requires the rater to modify the annual default dates and identify a new effective end date corresponding to the status change or supervision date. This ensures the AAW professional does not have any un-rated SRPE time and that their annual SRPE cycle remains intact.
For guidance on the completion of the SRPE, including helpful hints and system guides, visit the dedicated SRPE webpage. If you have any questions about the SRPE process, contact your organization’s acquisition point of contact (OAP) or acquisition career management advocate. A list of OAPs can be found on MilSuite at: https://www.milsuite.mil/book/docs/DOC-640236.
