The AN/TPQ-53 Counterfire Target Acquisition Radar, which provides long-range counterfire target acquisition for mortars, rockets, and cannons, was named one of the top five 2012 defense programs of excellence in systems engineering because of a seamless link from development to production. Systems engineers and quality assurance engineers with the U.S. Army Communications – Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center supported the Q-53 radar, developing the predecessor system before its transition to Product Manager Radars, now assigned to Program Executive Office Missiles and Space (PEO MS).
