The ST also advises on trends in technology related to the organization’s long-term pro- ductivity. This can be a delicate balancing act for the ST, who also serves as a mentor to junior scientists and engineers and who continues to conduct high-quality research.

He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, M.S. degrees in mechanical engi- neering and naval architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
