The Back-to-Basics framework compressed the three-level certification model into a one or two-tiered model and shifted the focus from a front-loaded training model to a life-long training paradigm. Under this new paradigm, the focus, training requirements, and delivery of DAWIA certification changed. The intent of DAWIA certification is now to focus on core competencies to the functional area as part of the required certification training the expectation that individuals will get any additional, just-in-time training over the course of their career through credentials. All of the Acquisition Functional Areas reduced the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) training hours required to achieve DAWIA certification. DAU also changed the delivery methods for certification courses, placing more emphasis on Online Training (OLT) and Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) and reducing the number of resident/classroom courses.
