FORT BELVOIR, Va. (March 14, 2025)—Army AL&T Frontline Favorites celebrate the top five articles published during the past year selected by audience engagement. These impressive written submissions from the Army Acquisition Workforce community stand out among the elite group of contributors to the Army AL&T magazine. These awards highlight noteworthy accomplishment, setting the standard for editorial quality that strengthens the Army AL&T magazine as the go-to resource for Army acquisition professionals and the official publication of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.
The top five articles in 2024 in order of highest audience engagement amongst the U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center website, social media and Army Core are as follows:
- SHAKING THE TREE from the Program Executive Office for Soldier from the Spring Army AL&T magazine issue (published online in February 2024) by Andrew H. Cline, Maj. Eric B. Forsgren and Travis T. James. After other methods fail, xTech helps Project Manager for Soldier Lethality find potential industry partners for the Precision Grenadier System.
- ATEC’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION from the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command from the Fall Army AL&T magazine issue (published online in September 2024) by Maj. Lucas Gebhart and Blaine Perry. Data mesh, which makes data more readily available to stakeholders by storing data in a common location with separation along logical business lines, revolutionizes U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command’s ability to help speed capability to the hands of warfighters.
- STRYKER READY from the 704th Brigade Support Battalion and 1-41 Infantry Battalion from the Summer Army AL&T magazine issue (published online in June 2024) by Lt. Col. Nate Platz and Maj. Matt Gilbert. The Army’s current model to determine future equipment readiness levels falls short of enabling command decision-making in large-scale combat operations. During a rotational deployment to Korea, leaders from 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division pursued an improved model to forecast equipment readiness using machine learning tools, while considering the influence of exogenous data.
- TRANSFORMING IN CONTACT Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications – Tactical (PEO C3T) from the Summer Army AL&T magazine issue (published online in August 2024) by Maj. Bradley Anderson and Kathryn Bailey and accompanying sidebar by Lt. Col. Mark Scott and Amy Walker. The Army is identifying specific units to experiment with near-term networked communications systems designed to counter the threats leaders see evolving on the battlefield. Known as “transforming in contact,” this experimentation is becoming an increasingly critical component for evaluating and helping to refine technologies that could be needed at a moment’s notice.
- ACCELERATING THE ARMY’S AI STRATEGY Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, under the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology from the Fall 2024 Army AL&T magazine issue (published in September 2024) by Anna Volkwine and Steven Lusher. The development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions from industry provides the DOD with opportunities to enhance and strengthen its strategic edge in national defense. As these technologies evolve, the U.S. Army SBIR and xTech Programs play a vital role in delivering these innovative AI solutions to the Army.
