Keeping pace with the rapid, near-constant changes in technology can be challenging. By the time one project gets approved for installation, a newer, more improved technology has emerged on the market. Tracking those changes while maintaining global readiness is a constant battle for Product Manager Power Projection Enablers (PM P2E), within the Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems. It’s a battle the P2E team is willing to fight: to create the best outcome while striving to make the acquisition and installation processes as efficient as possible.

P2E’s mission is to deliver the full spectrum of network, information and infrastructure modernization services outside of the continental United States (OCONUS) so that Soldiers and commands can access, process and act upon information anytime and anywhere, thus enabling information dominance across all phases of joint and coalition operations. Bringing in new, upgraded technology and providing a refresh of technical capability sets across all areas of responsibility will facilitate more efficient and effective delivery of services. These efforts will increase Soldiers’ capabilities by providing the network infrastructure they need to support future Army operations and global readiness.

P2E continues to provide and sustain the command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) infrastructure at U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Humphreys in support of the U.S. Forces-Korea relocation, part of the Yongsan Relocation Plan Land Partnership Plan. Once the relocation is complete, USAG Humphreys will become the fifth most populated Army base, with more than 20,000 Soldiers occupying more than 500 buildings. A major requirement during FY 17 and FY18 is to install, secure and test the data devices and Inside Plant-Active equipment for C4I systems in end-user buildings (EUBs).

“All of this will be completed while supporting the ‘fight tonight’ concept, a term adopted to stress the need for readiness at any point of the day for anything that could happen,” said Lt. Col. Gregory S. Soulé, product manager for P2E. “South Korea is a high-threat area, and readiness is key.”

P2E continues to provide and sustain the C4I infrastructure at U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Humphreys in support of the U.S. Forces-Korea relocation, part of the Yongsan Relocation Plan Land Partnership Plan. Once complete, it will serve as the 8th Army Headquarters.

In addition to supporting the expansion effort, P2E will begin modernizing the Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN) serving the existing portion of USAG Humphreys. The Defense Information Systems Network Subscription Services area distribution nodes and EUBs will be upgraded with new data switches. This effort will be accomplished with limited remediation of power, grounding and heating ventilation and air conditioning. At completion, the modernization effort will increase local network speeds ten-fold, from 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to 100 Gbps, in accordance with current Army ICAN standards.

These projects and other efforts support the Army’s globally positioned Soldiers and joint services with the quickest, most efficient capabilities to communicate, and accomplish any mission.
