The current grace period for certification is within 24 months of assignment to the position. The draft DoDI 5000.66, which is being processed as a substantive change with a target release of January 2022, will change the grace period to a 3-5-4 construct. Once the DoDI 5000.66 is reissued, the grace period will be 3 years for foundational positions; 5 years for practitioner positions; and 4 years for advanced positions. The future structure will provide a reduction in the amount of training and courses and an increase in the amount of time granted and more focus on experience. This new 3-5-4 construct will also be implemented on 1 February for anyone who has not yet met their position certification requirement.
