FORT BELVOIR, Va. (Feb. 20, 2019)—Please join the Director, Acquisition Career Management (DACM) in congratulating the 63 Army Acquisition Workforce (AAW) professionals selected for the Inspiring and Developing Excellence in Acquisition Leaders (IDEAL) program for FY19.
IDEAL is a leadership development program for AAW civilians at GS-11/12/13 or broadband equivalent with leadership and supervisory potential. The program prepares participants for future positions where they will lead people, teams and other work groups.
IDEAL is sponsored by the Army DACM Office, with the Army Acquisition Center of Excellence providing classroom instruction and facilitation. For FY19, the program will be offered at two locations: Warren, Michigan, and Washington, D.C. Selectees at both sites will begin the program in March.
Program participants will take part in three one-week resident sessions held over six months. Between sessions, they will return to their workplaces to exercise new skills and put into practice the concepts and competencies they learned and examined during the resident sessions. The curriculum will include classroom instruction, site visits, guest speakers and special projects.
The selection process for the program was especially competitive this year, with more than 150 applications submitted. Applications were reviewed and the selectees recommended by a selection board consisting of senior AAW professionals throughout the Army. Observations regarding successful applications included:
- Senior Rater Potential Evaluation (SRPE): High or Exceptional Potential rating; senior rater comments highly recommend for leadership training; recognition of employee’s exceptional potential; some degree of employee excellence in the SRPE; rationale that reflected the IDEAL program.
- Resume: Shows depth of experience; well-written; concisely highlights accomplishments and skills; shortened bullet format is the best.
- Acquisition Career Record Brief: Up to date.
